The Nadjmi Foundation carried out one of its most ambitious missions, spanning three Iranian cities — Shiraz, Zahedan and Tehran — with extraordinary results.

In Shiraz, a new electronic patient database for cleft patients was inaugurated, funded by the Foundation. Almost half of the patients treated were Afghan refugees, a particularly vulnerable population with little or no access to healthcare.

In Zahedan, 22 surgeons from different specialties took part in advanced training across five newly refurbished operating theatres, where 33 children underwent surgery. The Foundation also visited the future Center of Excellence under construction — a 700 m² facility set to become a national reference hub.

The mission concluded in Tehran, at Mofid Children’s Hospital, with surgeries and teaching activities designed to strengthen long-term local capacity.

Mission highlights:

  • 80 surgeries performed across three cities
  • 22 surgeons trained
  • Significant progress on the Zahedan Center of Excellence

The Nadjmi Foundation was established in 2015 by Prof. Nasser Nadjmi, Director of the cleft and craniofacial anomalies team at the University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA), with the goal of developing sustainable centers of excellence for children with cleft deformities.
